What really happened to Molly Clarke?
Don’t Look For Me- Wendy Walker
Don’t Look for Me; One night, Molly Clarke walked away from her life. She doesn’t want to be found. Or at least, that’s the story. This is a novel from Wendy Walker about a missing mother who seems to not want to be found, but we later find out, that’s not the whole story. Wendy Walker is a pronounced author and has written several other novels.
DESIGN PROBLEM: To redesign a book cover and inside spreads that would draw in readers to the story. To make the cover stand out against all other books on the shelves. To also create a campaign for the book including, social media advertisements for an audiobook version, a book launch event poster and inside spreads.
DESIGN PROCESS: To research this book, I went to a local bookstore and looked at it on the shelf along with all the other books around it. The original color was black and had thin yellow type. I bought and read the book to get a better idea of the story and the characters. I also researched other book poster designs, and social media accounts made for other novels as well as Wendy Walkers personal page.
DESIGN SOLUTION: For the redesigned book cover, I wanted to create intrigue. I wanted to use lighter background colors with a stark black type to make the title stand out. For the chapter pages, I wanted to make sure that I left the chapter names as simplistic as I could to not take away from the flow of reading for readers. By having a complex design for the chapter numbers, it creates a pause in reading and I wanted to story to flow through each chapter. For the social media advertisements, I chose again to make this simple and straight to the point. I decided to use reviews from the book as the content to display because I think it creates a buzz around the book and creates the idea that people are talking about it. For the book launch poster, I designed it to look like the social media advertisements because I wanted all elements to tie together. I wanted to make sure the important information for the event was visible and that there was hierarchy to the information shown.
